Who We Are

Guardians of Cyprus's Natural Beauty

CyNoLitter was founded by a group of passionate Cypriots who refused to watch their beloved beaches and natural spaces disappear under a tide of plastic and litter. Today, we are a growing movement of thousands.

Alagadi Beach — one of the most pristine beaches in Cyprus

“Cyprus has some of the most beautiful coastlines in the Mediterranean. It is our collective responsibility to keep them that way.”

— The CyNoLitter Team

Born from Love for Cyprus

Our journey began on the shores of Alagadi Beach, where a small group of friends decided that picking up litter was no longer optional — it was an act of love. What started as a local initiative quickly grew into a island-wide movement.

Today, CyNoLitter coordinates cleanup events across Cyprus's most vulnerable coastal and natural areas, engages schools and youth organizations, and partners with local businesses and government bodies to create systemic, lasting change.

Every piece of litter collected is a victory. Every volunteer who joins is a statement. Together, we are rewriting the story of our island — one clean beach at a time.

Our Mission

To mobilize communities across Cyprus in the fight against litter pollution — organizing regular beach and nature cleanups, fostering environmental responsibility, and protecting the island's natural heritage for future generations.

Our Vision

A Cyprus where every beach, forest, and public space remains pristine and litter-free — where environmental stewardship is a shared cultural value embraced by residents and visitors alike.

Our Values

We believe in the power of community, the urgency of environmental action, and the responsibility we all share. We act with transparency, inclusivity, and an unwavering respect for the natural world.

The Facts

Why It Matters

The problem of litter pollution is larger and more urgent than many realize. Understanding the scale of the crisis is the first step toward solving it.

1M+
Seabirds & Marine Animals

More than one million seabirds and 100,000 marine animals die every year due to plastic pollution in the Mediterranean.

80%
Land-Based Litter

Up to 80% of marine litter originates from land-based sources — meaning our everyday choices directly impact ocean health.

450yrs
Plastic Bottle Lifespan

A single plastic bottle can persist in the environment for up to 450 years, contaminating soil and water for generations.

90%
Reduction Possible

Studies show that organized community cleanups can reduce visible litter on a beach by up to 90% in a single session.

30%
Biodiversity at Risk

Nearly 30% of Cyprus's coastal biodiversity is under threat from pollution, habitat degradation, and irresponsible waste disposal.

€2.5B
Annual Economic Cost

Marine litter costs the European Union an estimated €2.5 billion annually in tourism, fisheries, and coastline cleanup expenses.

The Mediterranean sea — and the island of Cyprus within it — is one of Earth's most irreplaceable natural and cultural treasures. It deserves our protection.
